Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Think about coming into a kindergarten classroom with students who have varied ethnic backgrounds and whose primary language is not English. These students often need extra support for learning English but always manage to come to school with the biggest smiles on their faces. Every day, I teach these students who want to learn English, and I teach them how to read and write.
Many of these students do not have English language support at home.
Every day, I immerse them in the English language and help them become successful. My school prides itself on being able to bring students together for creative endeavors. With help from donors, we've already been able to fund multiple successful and engaging projects.
My Project
Kindergarten is all about helping each other and supporting each other's learning, except when it comes to taking a math test. We are learning to keep our eyes on our own paper because then the teacher won't be able to tell who really knows the information and who still needs support. It is important to help those who do not understand the math concepts, in order for me to support them with the math concepts that they are struggling with. In order to prevent wandering eyes, we need privacy boards when we take a math test. This will help the children learn to not look at each others papers and to be confident in their choices.
Having privacy boards will help my students keep their eyes on their own test and help prevent wandering eyes.
Once it is established who needs more support, the ten frame stamp and stamp pads will help my students understand most of the counting concepts they have learn. Please help us learn not to have wandering eyes.
