My Students
My students are a group of 5th grade students who are highly motivated when they know they are cared about.
The school is 100% economically disadvantaged and most of our students rely on the meals and snacks they receive at school because oftentimes, it is all they consume that day.
Many of my students come to school after facing many obstacles in their home lives. These problems often find their way into the classroom. Some are homeless, some live in shelters, others are latch key kids with no adult home for several hours after they arrive home or they are responsible for taking care of their younger siblings while their parents are working.
My Project
Recently, our city was affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many of my students were affected by this catastrophic storm. Earbuds and headphones were a requirement for each student, because we were fortunate enough to get iPads for workstations. Many students did have, and lost their listening technology. My students would benefit from this project by being able to be fully engaged in our math technology workstations and more students would be able to utilize this station more frequently. Many students are English Language learners and the headphones would be wonderful for students to have material translated and work on vocabulary development activities online.
