This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are young, active, and curious learners. They are natural explorers who learn a lot through play. They live and attend school in an urban area with few neighborhood resources. Often, my students may feel timid coming to school because it's their first experience in a classroom. Sometimes my classroom is the safest and most nurturing environment for them. Every year, I re-evaluate the needs of my classroom. I do this to ensure my students are given the best opportunities to grow, even if it means purchasing items out of my pocket.
I have a soft spot for my young learners.
I want to give them learning materials that help strengthen their development in all areas. Regardless of their circumstances, they deserve so much!
My Project
Everyone likes to play! However, we all want to play in different ways.
Research shows that play is essential for a child's development!
I'm asking for the different sensory play items that will encourage children to learn through creativity and exploration. The pop its, the gooey sand, magic marbles, and water timers will be used during my small group lessons and choice time. The children will use their senses of touch, sight, and hearing to explore these new manipulatives. I will ask open-ended and educational questions to scaffold their learning. I might ask, "How many pops did you pop? What shapes do you see? How long will it take for the color to move to the other side?" The storage unit I'm requesting will help store all of my sensory items for clean and easy access. Thank you in advance for seeing the importance of play in the classroom.
