Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Coming up with creative and collaborative solutions using stop motion animation.
My students are 2nd-8th graders that have been accepted into the Gifted and Talented academy for our district.
Being young and identified as gifted they should be challenged in academics and technology. Most of my students do not have computers at home, which means students need to learn about technology and resources in the classroom. Students learn how to work collaboratively with each other through online resources, but are also provided some opportunities to have fun on the computers. Our school has a fenced in blacktop area for students to play after lunch, but does not have a playground. It would be ideal if students were able to come up during their lunch and explore technology.
My Project
I am asking for a camera and play doh so that students can create their own stop motion animation. Being in the Gifted and Talented program students are held to a very high standard. With the standards being high we try to encourage students to be creative with their solutions to problems. Some of our students would like to create stop motion movies instead of the over done Power Points or posters. A few of my highly gifted in math would like to make stop motion movies of math equations, creating the numbers out of play doh and then solving the equations as part of the movie.
I love the fact that students are creating their own ideas for solving simple problems exciting.
Along with creative problem solving students are encouraged to work collaboratively with other students.
By creating stop motion animation movies students will be creative and collaborate on assignments.
Students are coming up with their own ideas, I want to encourage them and have the resources for students to do make their ideas into reality.
