Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
My Project
This school year, my students and I have been focusing on learning our letters. We put our most of our focus on identifying letters and sounds, as well as building short phrases. Through your donations, my students will be able to have the extra practice that they need to be able to identify all letters and sounds and soon learn how to write full complete sentences.
Students will be eager to learn the alphabet letters through the fun and engaging learning tools that they will get to play with.
I plan to use each item in our reading-writing workstations. My students will be able to practice identifying letters though the alphabet bingo as well as using their fine motor skills through the magnetic alphabet maze. They will also practice identifying letter sounds with the Spanish alphabetic learning blocks. My advanced students will use the word building blocks and the magnetic letters to create phrases.
My students will enjoy hands-on learning workstations and will benefit from using each item to build on their phonological skills.
