Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 4th grade in Pennsylvania. It is the 4th largest school district that offers free breakfast, lunch, and other amazing opportunities to all the students. It is an urban, public elementary school that touches many beautiful minds!
Because we are an urban school, many of the costs for school supplies falls on the teacher.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet and get to know many wonderful students who have touched my life in lots of ways!
My Project
My classroom is looking for an updated library. I love to read, and Iove to see my students reading. There is nothing more amazing than watching a child get lost in a book. Unfortunately, because we are in an urban district, our school library has limited resources. As a teacher I encourage the students to go home and have their parents walk them to our local library to get books for their house. A lot of times the parents just don't have the necessary funds to get to the library and/or order books from book clubs.
Every year my classroom library gets smaller and smaller because I allow the students to borrow my books so they can read at home.
I encourage them to bring the books back, but I can only do so much. Our classroom would LOVE to have new books to not only read around the room but to take home and read at home. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
