I am a second-year teacher in NJ. This year, I am teaching transitional first grade. This means that my students were identified as kindergartners who were not quite ready for the challenges of first grade. T-1 gives them an opportunity to catch up to their peers in a small group environment without being retained.
This is a very special group of kids.
They come from a place that is notoriously ranked as one of the most dangerous and violent cities in America. Yet, they come to school each day and defy the most unfavorable of circumstances.
I am so fortunate to teach such an inspiring and ambitious group of students and only hope to mirror their dedication to learning in what I teach them.

Technology is changing the way we live, work, and learn.
As a teacher of curious and creative first graders, I choose to embrace technology in the classroom by incorporating it into literacy centers.
My students use iPads to access online reading programs, watch videos, and practice reading skills. A class set of headphones will help my students use technology without distracting others. The storage bin will give students a place to put them when they are done.
Technology can be a powerful tool in the classroom. With these supplies, I know that I can create new opportunities to keep all students engaged. With your support, my first graders will not only grow as readers, but as leaders in the digital world.
