My students come from diverse backgrounds. Mine is a 100% free/reduced-price lunch school, and more than three-quarters of the students come from low-income, high poverty backgrounds.
School is often the safe place for students to come for a warm meal, a friendly smile, and positive attention in their lives.
When my students are at school, they love to learn, explore, and teach each other.
With limited resources in our district, we are often unable to purchase items that students need to maximize their learning, explore the world around them, and challenge themselves.
My Project
This collaborative learning space gives students the opportunity to work together on their various classroom projects. Flexible seating options such as the flex-space bundle help students take control of their learning by giving them more options.
By offering my students this flexible seating option, I am giving them an opportunity to collaborate more, build better community with their peers, meet their sensory needs, and improve their focus all while still learning.
Flexible seating has been proven to improve student focus, encourage collaboration and community building, help meet students sensory needs, give them a chance to move while learning and be comfortable, and give them control over their learning by giving them choices. With flexible seating in the classroom, students can work by themselves, in pairs, groups, or even as a whole class as needed.
Flexible seating supports collaborative learning and community building in the classroom. Students are allowed to choose their seating daily; this encourages them to work with a variety of their peers in learning communities, which promotes student collaboration.
