My Students

We are a combined kindergarten/ first grade class in a small rural town in Oregon. Our small K-8 school is nestled between forested hills and a lake. We love incorporating our rich natural environment into our learning through science and gardening.

In our K/1 classroom, we strive to develop our character full of integrity, love, and bravery, and fortitude.

We care about being proactive citizens and love learning about the world we live in. We work hard, and we also celebrate our achievements hard!

My Project

Our combined kindergarten/ first grade students are journeying through that magical time when letters turn from abstract symbols into sounds that blend into words and have meaning.

A crucial part of developing their reading skills is daily small-group guided reading time with the teacher.

Students meet with me to learn and practice hearing, saying, writing, and reading these new sounds. They will go from knowing some letter names and sounds to knowing how to read multiple sentences on a page. They will build their skills and confidence through repeated practice in a small-group setting.

Our students need stools that are their size to sit on and an easel to reference. We will use the easel daily in many different ways to help students learn to read and write.
