I am a third grade teacher in the amazing school district of West Jefferson Hills. We are a school made up of wonderful teachers, administration, and parent involvement. I am really proud of my classroom and the students I teach every day. I have very high expectations that the students are proud to reach. They do not shy away from higher level problem solving even when it is above their grade level.
Our days go quickly as they are fast paced with not a moment to waste.
We use our time wisely yet have fun doing it. I believe the students will leave my classroom better, smarter and more well rounded. I like learning and teaching, but if I can add something extra special to their day, I love that even more.
I would like to create a homelike environment for my classroom and to do this, I am completely removing all desks and chairs. I would like to replace them with stools and non-traditional tables. I have added fabrics and lamps and I feel like this is the last thing to allow the students to walk in and have a calm place to learn and feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. It is those mistakes that allow students to really learn and remember the process that will carry them into their future learning. My job as an educator is to teach children how to learn.
