I teach Chemistry to high school students from diverse backgrounds in an urban International Baccalaureate high school. My classes include students who have a wide range of abilities, some of which have high interest and others who are there to fulfill the requirement.
My goal is to create a community of learners that are open to learning more about how Chemistry relates to the world around them.
The students use lab activities to help make these connections to see how Chemistry is a part of their daily life.
My chemistry classroom is currently filled with plastic chairs and metal stools which does not allow students much choice in their seating.
I am working towards offering more personalized learning and offering a flexible stool seating option would allow students to have more of a choice of where to sit.
My students have a range of motivation and when they have a bit of choice in their learning they tend to have more focus. Having another seating option would help to grab a few more students attention. I have one cushioned office chair that can be used and it is used every hour by one lucky student.
