One word that sums up my students is CREATIVE! I teach art to K-5 students in a public school setting serving 500 students. I was new to the school last year, and my students have beyond impressed me with their whole new level of creativity and innovation that I have never seen in my teaching career.
The breadth and depth of my students' creativity is incredible.
Some of the examples are (all student initiated):
- A group of students were working on a video project to raise fund for the laptops for their teacher.
- A group of students were taking drawing commissions with the proper business order form.
- Students painted the reading chairs to promote reading.
- Students made shadow puppets by using recycled materials.
My Project
Stools in the art room are essential. They allow students to move their body flexibly while they are working such as turning and bending. With my art classroom set-up where students are allowed to move freely from studio to studio, stools are more than essential. With the chairs that take up so much space, it hinders student transitions between the studios.
Stools are much more efficient than the chairs when it's time to clean up, as they can be on top of tables to clean under the table.
When the chairs are stacked on the table, they may fall on students and get hurt as they are heavy.
