This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I school in Maryland where all students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite the challenging circumstances these students face outside of school, they enter the classroom excited and ready to explore all the world has to offer them.
Pre-kindergarten is the first year of school for the majority of my students, so it is important that they are able to develop a love of learning!
In pre-kindergarten, they also need to build a strong academic foundation in order to be prepared for the academic challenges they will face throughout elementary school and beyond. Creating this foundation will allow them to have the tools to become anything they dream to be.
My Project
Our school has been virtual since the beginning of the year. For my students in Pre-K, they don't know school as anything different.
It is so important that my students learn to love school, even in this setting, as Pre-K sets the foundation for their educational careers.
Since our students do not have access to the materials and activities they would in an in-person classroom, we are working hard to recreate these activities with minimal materials that can be sent to students' homes.
I am requesting a variety of materials for my students to use at home. If funded, each student will receive a new notebook to use during writing time, a Dot Art Painter which can be used to create sets in math or to make letters, and Rainbow scratch paper to make our letter and number writing extra exciting! The feathers, craft sticks, pipe cleaners, and tissue paper squares will be sent home to use for our letter of the week crafts!
