Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 22 children in my class who are energetic, loving, and ready to learn! Many have difficult lives at home, so school is a safe place for them to find support. They work together and always support each other and cheer each other on when something is difficult. Our class is truly a team with a growth mindset. They celebrate each other's successes, and encourage others who are struggling. I love seeing our little community get stronger every day!
My Project
In my first year of teaching second grade, I have worked hard to build a classroom library to support readers of varying ability. Some of my students read at a kindergarten level, while others are able to read beyond a fourth-grade level. These book collections will help fill out my library and encourage ALL of my readers to develop a love of reading by providing fun, engaging books for them.
Few of my students have access to books at home, but they all deserve to be able to read as much as they want.
This addition to our classroom library would provide opportunities that the children may not have at home. Books can spark young imaginations in incredible ways, and I know I have students with great minds - they just need that little creative switch to be flipped. Books have that power!
