Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school serves a low-income population who see school as their safe place. A large majority worry about things kids shouldn't have to such as shelter, food, and taking care of their siblings while parents are at work. Our students know the adults at our school care, and we will do everything in our power to meet their needs.
My dream is to enhance our STEM environment to foster and develop their skills, encouraging them to pursue STEM opportunities into high school and college.
Many of our students at the middle school would be first generation college students. Learning coding and pursuing it into high school would also allow for some students to graduate high school with necessary credentials to do coding as a career.
My Project
My students need the additional materials necessary to make their learning this year the most fulfilling and rewarding that it can be. Materials received will be used to enhance our STEM classroom by adding in Sphero as a coding component and the addition of Lego pieces to make more complex robots. The materials will be used to benefit six STEM classes in addition to four robotics teams.
These various learning opportunities will help foster curiosity in the STEM fields, encouraging students to pursue more advanced classes in high school and into college.
Students do not realize their potentials, and the addition of these materials into our classroom will help them better understand the power of their own minds and abilities. Thank you for your consideration!
