Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Middle school is a pivotal part in a young adults life. From raging hormones to self discovery it's easy to see why everyone always says "bless your heart" when I tell them I teach middle school. Although it's quite tough, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
My students are special because they keep me on my toes and up to date with everything.
We have a mutualistic relationship, I teach them science, and they keep me hip and cool. My favorite thing about my students is when they have "light bulb moments." These are various moments that happen throughout instruction in which they start to understand something that they were having trouble with before.
As tough as being a teacher is, it's the moments like this that really make you understand why you and thousands of others have chosen this profession. I love being able to watch their curiosity grow and their skills strengthen in my classroom, it truly is the greatest treasure.
My Project
As a teacher in a Title 1 school it is often times hard to differentiate instruction in the classroom for some of my special needs students. With my smallest class size being 30 students it is difficult for students with certain needs to focus. Being able to take students into small groups and allow them to use an iPad for simulators, videos, and notes would increase the engagement of these students drastically.
With a class iPad my students will be able to take their learning and experience in the classroom to the next level.
Allowing certain students to work in small groups or 1-on-1 with me could change the way they look at science. All students deserve the opportunity to learn, some just need to do it in different ways than others!
