My students need to have hands-on experiences to develop interest in science concepts. These students don't have the background knowledge needed to understand concepts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Did you ever want a pet as a child? My students are in living situations that don't always encourage pets. Many of my students haven't had the experiences that most 9 years old have experienced.
We are an inner city school that is Title 1 and we have a 97% free and reduced lunch population.
These students haven't gotten to see a lot of science in the outside world. They don't have access to ponds, creeks, or places to play outside of their homes. Many students return home to take care of siblings, so experiencing "fun" science concepts isn't something they have had the opportunity to do. I would like to provide these experiences to them. I think they would be thrilled to see butterflies and frogs grow from larvae. They would enjoy seeing what owls do with their food and the bones that are left in the pellets. Providing a safe place to experiment with electricity is something that will encourage further exploration. I want to provide students with all the opportunities and experiences that may lead them into career choices that they might not otherwise consider.
My Project
My students have so much potential to reach their dreams. They just lack the resources to reach their goals. With these materials, I hope to provide them with some eye opening experiences that they may not have been exposed to before. The students may see some of these things as playing, but the learning that they will receive with these materials may be life changing for some of my brilliant minds!
Science is all around us and we take it for granted.
I hope to encourage students to embrace the world of science around them. I want them to see the amazing things that our environment has to offer to them.
