Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a school that serves many students from disadvantaged and challenging home environments, I frequently have students that require extra attention and creative techniques to help them learn. Each student’s unique personality and talents makes the class a joy to teach. This makes the class diverse and the need to respect that every student has a gift. My goal is to have their gifts shine. I try to incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met.
I frequently have special need students in my class and my goal is for their gift to shine as much as any other student.
For example, when we had a media advertisement, everyone enjoyed one of my special education students because she wasn’t afraid to sing, persuade and tell a story. She was a model to encourage others to try a media advertisement.
My students are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners each year. My joy is to witness the face of each child as they excel.
My Project
The carpet and flex seats will provide a more comfortable and engaging environment for students to read in a stimulating library area. The library will be a great place to teach students effective strategies for selecting interesting, relevant and appropriate reading materials.
The book bins, carpet, and seats will assist students in locating books easily and gives them room to get comfortable.
These book bins will allow me to organize the large collection of reading materials in different levels to accommodate the variety of student interests. Students will be able to read a specific genre, of their choice, while finding a new, updated, cozy spot to read!
