Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from the inner city. All students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. Many come from broken homes and endure hardships on a daily basis. Each day they come to my class and are expected to put all that aside and workout as hard as possible. This can be difficult without adequate equipment. They do the best they can but they are eager to try new things that will not be possible without updating and adding to the equipment that we have.

My Project

With the resources that we are requesting my students will be able to take their first step toward life long fitness. We currently have 10 jump ropes for our fitness class and a very basic weight room. If my project is funded my students will have the opportunity to incorporate a wider variety of exercises and fitness techniques into their daily workouts. I am requesting Gymnastics Rings so my students can do dips,ring rows, and several other upper body strength exercises, Dumbbells for isolated upper body strength training, and jump ropes to supplement the ones we currently have.

This equipment is far from all we need but it will be a big step in the right direction to provide these students with the tools needed to prepare them for a lifelong fitness.
