Help me give my students essential adhesive materials for our Art Classroom, such as masking tape, clear heavy duty tape, and various glues for every day use.
My students are always looking for ways to make their ideas come to fruition through their art. I teach 9th-12th-grade Imagineers and it is absolutely amazing what this age level is able to do with an idea. They are visualizing and growing through the process of creating.
My students come from varied backgrounds, some with the capabilities to obtain the materials needed to produce the works they are envisioning, but many do not have this capability.
My desire is to equal the playing field for my students, giving them exciting and creative projects to inspire them in their art making.
I write this request so that my students will be able to create something meaningful for themselves and for others. Creating is an essential part of self-actualization and a way of fulfilling an innate need to produce something meaningful. It would be wonderful for ALL of the creative students who enter my classroom to be able to have ample materials on hand in exploring their process of self-discovery.
My Project
Sticky stuff - it's a part of what we use in an art classroom every day. Glues, tapes, and other sticky things are what holds our classroom and art ideas together, literally. Can you imagine an art room without glue?
Students will be using these sticky mediums as tools for building, binding, mending, sculpting, and experimenting.
While most people take for granted the simple uses of clear tape, our classroom explores the uses of it in sculpting. Students wrap clear packing tape around Saran-wrapped armatures, remove them and shape into transparent sculptures. The "oohs and ahh's" from the students are inevitable.
Using masking tape as a sculpting material is also a sure fire way to ensure success for students. Manipulating and building marionettes from masking tape is an easy way to give students a medium that allows for mistakes that can easily be repaired - and is practically mess free for excellence in craftsmanship.
While these creative modes of use are important for creativity, there is also importance in using glues and other adhesives for embellishing student creations. There is always a need for gluing collage pieces, attaching yarns, beads, string, and other media to allow for unique artworks.
