As teachers in an inclusion class in a Title I school, my co-teacher and I have students that face many challenges daily. These challenges can range from not knowing who is going to pick them up from school that day to not having someone home to help them with their homework. Some students come to school hungry and without supplies. Inclusion also means teaching students with and without special needs (students with and without IEPs). These special needs can include Specific Learning Disabled, Autism, Other Health Impaired, and Cerebral Palsy.
If you were to walk into our "inclusion" classroom, you would not be able to tell which students have special needs and which do not.
They all have unique and special needs that we need to meet.
We consider each child as an individual with unique needs. We teach the whole child. We meet each pupil where they are emotionally, behaviorally, socially, and educationally to help them succeed to their highest potential.
My Project
I am currently teaching first grade 100% virtually. While leaning virtually, my kids are missing out on the crafty activities that I like to do during class.
The Paint By Number books in this project will help my kids explore their creative side, practice matching numbers, and practice their fine motor skills.
When I plan and send home activities each week, I try to send home at least one craft. This is no where near how many we would do in a normal school year. I’m scared that my kids are missing out on creativity. These paint by number books will allow them to practice many skills. They can work on their numbers and colors. They can also work on their fine motor skills when picking off the stickers and placing them on the pictures.
Virtual learning is hard. Kids need to have some down time and fun....away from a computer.
