My students need more hands-on activities to learn shapes, colors, numbers, and letters. This magnetic board and manipulatives will motivate my students to want to learn.
I am one lucky teacher to work with a classroom of preschool students on the autism spectrum. I have been given the challenge and wonderful opportunity to teach my students how to communicate effectively, play cooperatively together, and how to express their emotions appropriately with replacement behaviors. My students learn through music, dramatic play, sensory integration, and hands-on activities. My students love our classroom pets, art, blocks, games, puzzles, and physical activities. I want to give my students every opportunity possible to meet their individualized needs to communicate, socialize, and behave appropriately in a safe, fun, loving environment.
My Project
Teaching in an autism classroom is a challenge at times. My students all learn information in different ways. I chose a magnetic whiteboard for this project and funding. This magnetic board will be an effective tool for my students to learn colors, shapes, numbers, and letters. Students will be able to interact with their peers building different structures with the magnetic blocks and manipulatives that have been chosen for this project. This magnetic board has a dual purpose with the whiteboard on the other side. With the whiteboard on the other side, students can work together, one building and one practicing writing and drawing.
