Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Make mathematics more visible! In all my math classes, my students have requested that I display more visuals to help them remember math vocabulary, steps, and examples. Unfortunately, chart paper can get fairly expensive; therefore I am forced to prioritize which math content should be displayed.
The students at my school are extremely hardworking.
They have deliberately made a choice to go to this school because they are highly motivated to attend college. The hours of the school begin at 7:15 and end at 5:00. The school is in an urban environment with limited resources, and the students are grateful for any resources given to them. They are also very much self-aware and are outspoken about their learning needs, ranging from asking for more kinesthetic learning or one-on-one time with the teacher to understand a concept better.
My Project
Learning and development varies from one student to another. Understanding this, my students need constant exposure to the math they have learned, are currently learning, and will learn. With many visual and English Language Learners in my classes, easel pads are a great and simple way to remind them of the material that has been covered, especially in terms of vocabulary, steps and procedures, and math examples. Students can also take more ownership of their learning by helping me create our math posters together. By the end of the year, I hope that the visual displays of the math content and skills we will have covered will fill them with pride, realizing the growth they have made in their learning.
Mathematics is a craft in which improvement requires constant exposure and practice.
By contributing to this project, you ensure that the students' math skills become stronger, guiding them through a more successful academic experience. In order to make progressive changes in our communities and the global world, our students need to be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to compete with their counterparts locally and globally.
