My Students

The motto in our 4th-grade ICT class is, "Take Charge of Your Life!" Students realize that they are in control of their decisions and learning. In order to help them access authentic research and set up 21st century learning centers, we need computer access for about 1/3 of our students at a time.

My students are wonderful people, with beautiful hearts and minds.

They are kind, compassionate, and thoughtful. Our community is one of deeply invested educators, that strive to educate the whole child, and form a lasting connection with the families that we serve. My students yearn to learn, and love using the computers to do so. Many of our students do not have computers at home, and our school does not have a computer lab. The students are eager to use technology in the classroom, and get extremely motivated when given the opportunity to complete an assignment using the computers. We share one computer cart among three classes, so students get less than an hour each of computer time per week.

My Project

The first activity I will implement with these computers, will be to create a keyboarding station. I feel that typing skills are essential in today's world and workforce, and want to equip my students with the skills they need in order to be successful. I will also use the computers to tailor instruction to meet the needs of my students. Having the computers would allow my students to use the reading program that my school has purchased, which tailors a reading library to each child, based on their reading level. This is an engaging way to increase literacy in the classroom. Lastly, computers will be essential in giving students access to authentic research. In order to empower students, I feel that it is important to expose them to original and varied information on a regular basis. To be quite honest, the possibilities are endless! These computers will make a world of difference in our classroom.

We live in a tech-based, interconnected world, where knowledge is power.

Having access to computers and the Internet, on a daily basis, will improve the way that we teach and learn. In order to be successful, people must invest in themselves, and work hard to achieve their goals. Every student deserves the right to have access to information, so that they can make positive choices and, "Take charge of their lives"!
