My Students

None of my Sports and Performance Psychology students have ever reached a challenging goal. They are ready to change that! As a class, they will run their 1st ever 5K. They are working hard - training both mentally and physically to reach their exciting goal. As they cross train, we need your help!

Our high school is amazing and changes lives!

MHS, the alternative high school for our district is located in Utah. Students are referred to MHS from their "home" school when they fall behind academically and aren't on track to graduate. Students fall behind for a variety of reasons: health issues, learning disorders, lack of parental support, teen pregnancy, social anxiety, mental illness and more. Our students are at-risk for one reason or another. Fifty percent live below poverty and over seventy percent struggle with one or more psychological disorders. Though MHS students are behind they are resilient! They realize that education is important and they want to graduate. It's difficult, but they all work overtime to get caught up. Besides regular day school students complete online, after school and/or independent study programs to get on track and graduate. MHS students overcome their struggles with their determination, talents and intelligence. They are strong!

My Project

Using step benches while training will benefit my students mentally, emotionally, and physically. While our school is supportive of our class goals, it does not have the right resources. We don't have our own gym or equipment to use. To improve physical fitness and body composition the body has to engage in cross-training; it can’t do the same routine all the time and gain improvements. By incorporating step bench activities in the class, students will be able to engage in a variety of physical exercises - cardiovascular, strength training, and flexibility. Step aerobic benches are highly versatile and would definitely add variety, challenge, and fun to the class. It's known that physical health affects mental, emotional, and social health. I want to promote health and wellness in class and give my students the opportunity to practice it so they can experience the benefits and have quality of life. Step benches would improve the quality of our activities and would benefit us so much!

If my students improve their health, they will be much more likely to attend school, do well in school and have positive experiences while at school - which all lead to graduating from school!

It is also a hope and goal that students will practice making healthy decisions as well as exercise well beyond graduation. My students need step aerobic benches. The benefits from using them impact their health and self-esteem. This affects students individually, the school, and the community. Thanks!
