Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a lower economic area and are primarily minorities. Despite the challenges they may face, they are an energetic and optimistic group. They are eager for new experiences and I am eager to provide them with the opportunity to wrestle. The earlier students learn to wrestle, the more successful they will be in high school and beyond.
Wrestling develops a strong character, integrity, and perseverance which is a skill that will help my students through life as they face the challenges of being a minority.
My Project
BSD100 is starting its second year of our wrestling program. Started by a teacher who loves wrestling and understands its importance in developing character, I also know the difference having the right equipment can make.
Not all students can afford the necessary wrestling gear, and this can make wrestlers feel unprepared or inadequate when that does not reflect their true capability.
These shoes will help wrestlers feel prepared and confident on the mat and will set them up for success when they join the wrestling team in high school. They will have had the experience of using real wrestling shoes instead of wrestling in their street shoes or even their socks. Having the right equipment makes wrestlers feel part of the sport and makes it truly come to life.
