Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very tech savvy for five year olds. They yearn for fast paced, fun apps to learn and grow. They are children with an awareness of the new age of technology. Hands on is the way to go! My students will meet and surpass the common core state standards, and will step up to first grade!
They are like little sponges that are ready to absorb what you expose them to.
Learning is increasingly becoming more technology centered so my student are in need of ipads to aide in their daily learning. They do not have the opportunity to go to the computer lab, so if they do not get a chance in class to go on the computer, they have very little exposure. Many of my students do not have access to computers at home. My school provides a nurturing environment for students, but there is a need for many projects to be funded, due to the lack of money available in the school budget. The students are hungry to learn, and should be empowered to do so with today's varied methods.
My Project
By providing students with these iPads, students will be able to log onto websites that will support my teaching efforts and give students an opportunity to extend their learning and put into practice the skills that they have learned and build on the areas they need to improve. iPads, cases and headphones will open the students up to a wide array of specialized areas in all content. For example, students will be able to log on to Raz-Kids, and read their leveled books online. They will be able to use Starfall to both identify letter, sounds and read, in addition to the many math websites to encourage students to learn to count, add, subtract, and solve word problems. Students have the common core standards to work towards and using this online tool will help students to achieve meeting these standards.
