We love to read! My students need more books on their reading levels to develop literacy skills and to begin reading with confidence!
I teach in a self contained middle/high school special education classroom.
My students are extremely creative, intelligent, curious, and hard working. They amaze me every day in the ways they think outside the box. My students exceptionalities are mild and moderate intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, and hearing impairments. My students LOVE books. I get asked at least 10 times a day when we are going back to the library. My biggest classroom management "problem" is keeping them away from the bookshelf during instructional time and not taking too many books to lunch or recess. The students are very curious and enjoy learning about new things. They learn best and are most engaged with hands on activities. They want to be involved all the time and are very active and excited learners. Almost every day all of my students return their homework.
My Project
I am requesting four boxes of leveled Scholastic Early Readers. Each box has 15 different titles with five copies of each book. That will bring 60 different leveled books and all together 300 new books into my students' hands! Right now we do not have any leveled readers in our classroom and these sets will be a great start.
With five copies of each title we will be able to read these books in small groups and the students will be able to take them home. My students have wonderful families that help them with homework and are very supportive. There is never enough time in the school day for everything my students need and with 300 new books my students will have lots of books to choose from to take home.
My students struggle with reading and leveled readers will help them develop confidence in their reading.
My students come to school and work hard every day. These books will improve my students daily literacy instruction and encourage my students' families to read with them at home!
