Our school services a large neighborhood and is considered a hub for special education services. Half of our students come from low-income families and a majority of our students come from minority households.
Bridging the gaps and providing opportunities to explore beyond the community are goals that we strive to achieve.
Our students utilize an inquiry process model to dive deeper into material and take ownership of their learning.
We want students to be college, career, and citizen ready, but beyond that, instilling a love of learning is truly the hallmark of developing life-long learners.
My Project
In the 21st century, many of the jobs our students will have don't even exist yet. Year after year, employers indicate that students need to work on problem solving skills, teamwork, and perseverance.
STEM boxes are one way to allow students to develop 21st century skills through creativity and problem solving task cards.
The different materials that will go in the various STEM boxes will allow students the opportunities to test their skills with building challenges and other creative endeavors.
With access to the STEM boxes, students can develop these skills independently as early finisher tasks or take on the challenges as part of classwork.
