My students are sweet, funny, wonderful kiddos! They come from many different backgrounds, although the majority of my students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches. Our school serves both of our city's homeless shelters, so for many of my students, school is the place they feel the safest. Yet, even with so much adversity, my students consistently surprise me with what they can accomplish despite the challenges that may be in their way.
Our school is a warm and caring place for our students to come to every day, with staff that works extremely hard to help each child learn and grow.
I am blessed to be their teacher, and I will do everything I can to help them reach their full potential.
My Project
Right now, our district is trying to put together its own science curriculum, but it is still in the early stages. We are using what is currently done, and while there is some great stuff in there, I think this Wild Feet Exploration project based learning kit will really add to what we currently have to make our plants and animals unit even better.
In this science kit, students will be exploring how animal features can help us solve human problems!
I think the engaging, hands on activities included in this project will definitely spice up our plants and animals unit! The hands on element, combined with the collaborative nature of the projects, will be perfect for growing my students’ skills as scientists, communicators, and teammates.
All of the projects and materials align with our first grade science standards, and I have carefully reviewed each one to make sure that they fit with our plants and animals science unit. I foresee this project based learning kit being used as a culminating project to solidify my students’ understanding about animal adaptations and biomimicry as well as to incorporate STEM into our science block.
