Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
They have disabilities including but not limited to Autism, specific learning disabilities in both auditory and visual processing delays, developmental delays and speech and language impairments.
Our school is located in a rough area of South Los Angeles were the majority of students come from very low income households. They are a great bunch of inquisitive, fun, and diverse learners who need extra support and resources to aide and enrich their learning.
My Project
My students and I are usually together for two years, their kindergarten and first grade years. This coming year I will have about 75% of the same students from last school year. Therefore, I know that we will need as many tools to help them learn about a variety of science and environmental science units through out the year.
This past school year, we had science lessons as well as environmental science lessons to help the environment like, “water conservation,” “seasons,” and “liquid/matter/gas.”
My students really enjoyed these lessons, I plan to expand on the science and environmental lessons this coming year.
The scholastic science magazines that I am requesting as well as the overall scholastic magazines, will help expand our science lessons by providing pictures and more information about these subjects. The document camera will be used so that my students can share their drawings, findings and journal topics after each science lesson, including but not limited to, “ growing plants, recycling and butterflies life cycle.”
I’m excited to add more science and environmental lessons this coming year. I know my students thrived on these subjects because they involve many hands on opportunities and now will also involve more visual support through these magazines and document camera.
