Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth students are amazing students with unlimited potential, but they lack resources in the classroom to fully explore their ideas. The students come from low-income homes where for some the only they interact with educational items is at school. Our entire school receives free breakfast, lunch, and dinner due to need. My students have a genuine love for learning. They love to come in early and stay late to help and learn. I want to be able to nurture that love before it is lost. This year I have the pleasure of teaching Gifted students and I want to make sure I meet their needs as well.
My Project
This year I have decided to change the theme of our classrooms every 9 weeks. I also have a population of gifted students in my class and I want to challenge them by planning large activities that will require the students to work together to produce presentations of their choosing to match the theme of the class. This 9 weeks the classroom is themed travel. The Surface Go will allow us to take virtual field trips to exotic locations and look at modern and old world marvels. The next 9 week is animal themed. They will be able to learn about animals from around the world and how they interact with their environments The last 9 weeks will be Decade themed from the '20s to the early 2000s. they will be able to be transported to that time period and create a presentation about the most influential people and events in their decade.
This Surface Go will allow them to tap into their creative side and create great presentations for the class without being stuck in the classroom.
But this Surface Go is not just for the gifted students. The internet also has amazing websites that can engage and get students thinking about all subject areas including STEM. From coding apps, mathematics games, to audio books for struggling students, there is something for every student in my class.
