My students live in a small community in Central Ohio with over 56% of our students living in poverty, with many even homeless. Our school, like others, is trying to provide our students with the best education possible and help set them up for lifelong success. We have been doing this by trying our best to teach to different learning styles, by individualizing learning, and incorporating technology and project-based learning whenever possible.
My school has recently switched to a hybrid educational model to engage, challenge, and enrich our students in the learning process through technology and project-based learning curriculum.
Students are constantly changing and so are we.
My Project
I have always been passionate about STEM and the positives it brings to the students. STEM activities are challenging, engaging and set the students up for success in all academic areas. The problem I have always run into with incorporating STEM is the financial piece, as my district does not have the funds to spend on bringing the materials needed for STEM to my classroom. Also, time has always been a factor. However, after getting a few robots last year I talked my principal into letting me teach a STEM course instead of monitoring a study hall. I am so excited for this time to be able to focus on STEM activities. Now I am in desperate need of more materials. I am asking for mini Spheros and an Ozobot in order to have more STEM activities for the class. I can't wait to bring more STEM experiences to my students.
