My Students
Our school is located in rural Kentucky. We have 1/2 of our students that come from families with incomes below the poverty rate. We are also in close proximity to a military base and frequently we have children that are transitioning to a new home and school environment. Besides these challenging situations, we have begun to experience a drug epidemic in our small community which continues to grow and influence the area. Our students have many challenges before they even step foot into the door of the school.
My Project
I have requested items that will allow my students to have stations to work on, but first, we will introduce gross motor movement. For example, we will have a station about learning our numbers, but before we begin, we start with the Battle Rope and the 10 lb. slam ball. We will use our trampoline with the Slam Ball and count how many times we can throw it at the trampoline. We will then do seated work with recognizing numbers and counting 1:1 with manipulatives.
With the additional resources we can engage the whole student in STEM learning through use of stations and physical activity.
