Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first-grade class is composed of 24 eager and bright young minds. Our school is a Title I bilingual program school where a large number of students qualify for free or reduced-price meals and speak a language other than English. They come from different ethnic and social backgrounds. I have the privilege of educating inquisitive, thoughtful, and intellectually curious 6-year-olds.
My students love to learn and love to show others what they've learned.
Despite the challenges they face at home, I am eager to provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences where everyone is heard and everyone is made to feel empowered and important.
My Project
LEGO bricks empower students to spark their imagination, utilize their creativity, and build their engineering skills! Within the technology unit we will be studying next, we will be learning about inventions that help our envirnomeng and these Lego kits are perfect!
LEGO bricks are a fun way to do STEM and a great source to help foster language as they virtually collaborate, problem-solve, and negotiate their way while building their own vehicle!
Because we continue to be 100% virtual, we will engage in doing STEM via Zoom. With these wheel kits, each of my students will have access to STEM equipment they would normally only have access to if we were physically back in the classroom. This will provide them an equitable opportunity to do STEM.
Thank you for your support. May you all stay safe and healthy during these very uncertain times.
