Help me give my students a great start to their school day with these fun, hands-on-activities, such as coding toys, bee-bots, magnetic building tiles, and gears.
We work with kindergarten students. We are in a rural area with limited resources. At our Title I school, 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. It is important for these students to be up-to-date on real world events and information. They just need the tools to be able to push themselves higher. They are eager to learn new things, and I am excited to teach them! With all their questions and curiosity, the sky is the limit!
STEM activities are what the buzz is about!
Students love finding out how things work through fun, hands-on-activities. This project will provide exciting interactive STEM tubs that would take the place of traditional paper/pencil morning work in a Kindergarten classroom. These STEM Tubs that I would create would include meaningful creative leaning opportunities that would get them excited for the day through fun, hands-on-activities. These STEM tubs would also provide a way for my students to develop important social skills while collaborating with others.
My Project
My students will benefit greatly from STEM Tubs. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Tubs will be provided to our Kindergarten students to offer a fun, engaging, creative, and innovative way to start their day. The academic and high demands of Kindergarten leave little time for Kindergartners to engage in traditional play centers. With STEM Tubs they can learn and build their critical thinking skills while engaging in activities that students may see as "play".
Students will use STEM Tubs daily in place of traditional paper/pencil morning work during morning work time between student arrival and the bell that rings to signal the start of our academic day (approx.
25-30 min). This non-traditional method of morning work will promote student excitement, facilitate social and cognitive skills, and create a collaborative classroom. This project is creative because STEM tubs will be filled with lots of manipulatives (science, technology, engineering, and math). Each tub will be filled with meaningful resources related to science, technology, engineering, and math that students can work together on.
This is how the STEM Tubs will be implemented. Our morning work block starts at 7:30 and lasts until 8:05. As students arrive, they will participate in STEM Tub time. Materials will be purchased and placed in small storage tubs easily.
