My 2nd graders are the best! Each day they walk in with a smile on their face, eager to learn, compassion in their hearts, and determination on their mind. They are ready to conquer any and everything I challenge them with.
I teach in an integrated classroom of 23 students, 6 of those students are on IEPs for academic or social skills needs.
We provide support and services for them within the classroom, instead of a pull-out model. This type of classroom is beneficial for all students. For my special education students this model eliminates transitions and disruptions within their day. This model fosters a respectful, caring classroom community that all learners can thrive in.
My Project
I recently brought new STEM toys into my classroom and have seen the benefits of them first hand. I have been able to create centers in which my students can manipulate, create, problem solve and discover through the use of these toys. As i walk around the room, I hear students in deep conversations about their creations and how they made it. Nothing makes me happier then having my students engaged and excited about learning. So, it is my hope to continue to expand the STEM toys available to them.
STEM activities are an area of learning that all students can feel confident in, which is why it's important to me to continue to build the selection I have.
Students walk in on Fridays excited that we have STEM at the end of the day. With the new selection of toys, I will be able to make smaller groups to ensure that all students are able to access the materials they need to peak their curiosity and hands-on learning.
