My school needs STEM equipment to bring Chesapeake Bay watershed conservation to our students! Our school serves over 900 students in grades 6-8, about 40% of whom receive free or reduced lunch. Many of our students come from single parent, struggling homes. Students with the types of challenges that mine face need engaging lessons and equipment that will help build their creativity and make meaningful connections to all content areas.
My core belief is that all children deserve the opportunity to receive an excellent education.
The learning activities that I present to my students will spark their passion for science and learning. STEM experiences challenge my students to think outside the box and be active learners. I believe it is essential to expose my students to a variety of learning environments and opportunities that they may not otherwise have access to and will do whatever I can do to achieve that goal.
My Project
My students love hands on activities and by partnering with Trout in the Classroom, I can introduce them to environmental stewardship through an emphasis on STEM learning. My students live in an urban environment and have little access to projects that involve the natural world. I want to show them first hand the ways that humans can have a positive impact on our environment. The tank water chiller and pump in my project are the two key components to starting a Trout in the Classroom program.
My kids will never forget setting up our trout tank, observing the eggs hatch, and watching the fish grow.
Throughout the project they will be testing the water quality, learning about life cycles, and ecosystem interactions. Releasing our fish babies into the Chesapeake Bay will be something that stays with them forever! Please help us get the chiller and pump to see our dream project become a reality!
