Help me give my students magnetic tiles, magnetic designers, and other blocks so that they my kindergartners can continue to build their creativity, foster their enthusiasm for learning, as well as build their social and teamwork skills.
The students in my classroom all come from different backgrounds, family dynamics, socioeconomic statuses, religions, and belief systems. Some have never known hunger, and others don't know where their next meal will come from. Some take care of younger brothers and sisters after school. Some have stay at home moms that are there to help with homework when they get home. Some have parents that work two and three jobs to make sure their needs are met. Some have computers at home. Others are homeless. Some are the first English speakers in their families. Some are refugees.
However, my students all have one thing in common--they come to school each day, bright eyed, and ready to learn.
I draw inspiration from their enthusiasm to tackle each day, no matter what other circumstances they are dealing with.
My Project
The best thing that we ever did in our classroom was to introduce our STEM bins. We have watched the children in our class grow, create, collaborate, and engineer some amazing things with the materials that we have.
Now that we have reached the half way point in our school year, we would like to introduce some new STEM bins to our room.
We can't wait to see what the children will build with magnet blocks, stretch and build blocks, Lincoln Logs and many other kinds of blocks.
The children have learned how to talk with each other, problem solve, cooperate with students who are different than them, use their words to discuss ideas and strategies, and much much more. Since research has shown that learning social skills in kindergarten is so integral to success later in life, we are thrilled to be able to give our children these opportunities.
