Every day when my students walk through our classroom door they get welcomed to a refreshing environment where they can feel safe, empowered, and explore. Not all of my students have homes where they get the opportunity to explore and learn through investigation.
At my school, 96% of the population qualify for free and reduced lunch.
My kiddos love to get hands on when they learn. In math, we use manipulatives and the more hands on they are they more they can visualize and enjoy learning.
My Project
I want to provide more opportunities for my students to investigate through implementing STEM projects. STEM activities provide engaging and memorable experiences for my students. The magnet materials I have included are beneficial as they will find it interesting to read about and then they will have the opportunity to explore. We have completed one STEM project this year so far.
Their excitement as they worked together, investigated and created made me realize how beneficial these activities are.
My students were very encouraging to one another as they experimented. The cart will allow there to be a home for all of our STEM materials. Through having materials such as cups, plates, different types of paper, tapes, sticks and PlayDoh my students will be able to build and compare how different materials make a difference in their creations. I plan on doing Fairy Tale Stem projects on a weekly basis. One example comes from "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" where my students will have to create a sturdier chair for Goldilocks.
Creating and investigating experiences allow my students to enjoy learning new information as they practice problem-solving.
