STEM Thinking With Cardboard Creativity

Help me give my students a robust STEM/Makerspace in our school library. The Makedo construction toolbox contains wonderful reusable tools that students will use, along with recycled cardboard, to find creative solutions.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is the school library. It serves my entire school population, including more than 340 Kindergarten through 5th grade students, their parents, and their younger not-yet-school-aged siblings. When they visit this learning commons, they not only check out books, but also engage in hands-on activities to engage them in thinking, tinkering, and problem-solving. My school is a Title I school, which means that many of my students do not have opportunities for engaging in meaningful real-world learning outside of the school environment.

My Project

My students need opportunities to develop strong STEM Thinking skills. To do this, they need to be immersed in opportunities to wrestle with problems, find creative solutions, and learn to work together to put plans into action.

Makedo Cardboard Construction tools are a perfect match for the elementary school environment.

They encourage students to reuse and recycle, they are reusable, and they are simple for even the youngest students to use.

All students in my school visit the library at least once a week. During that time they engage in shared reading, they check out books, and they explore different centers where they are challenged to think critically, problem-solve, collaborate, and use their creativity. Makedo cardboard tools are an essential resource to achieving these goals.
