Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"To make students realize their full scientist potential and beyond. That has been my motto as a science teacher. This year, I have accepted and am preparing myself to be the STEM teacher of my school, which is a dream come true. My students are innovative, curious, and on track to become local and global leaders through an established IB program. By receiving funding to go to the CAST 2019 conference this year, I hope to continue developing my skills as an educator, and also learn more ways to keep my students engaged in science education.
Science education is unfortunately often put on the back burner in elementary, often causing more harm and minimizing student's science goals and potential.
My students deserve the best tools and science/STEM education available, it is a privilege to be in my position, and I wanted to reach my full potential. CAST, run by STAT has provided those opportunities in the past and I have been blown away by the presenters and community. I hope to go again this year and take away as much learning to not only my students, by my team at school.
My Project
I am requesting funding to go to CAST (conference for the advancement of science teaching) 2019. Every year, they provide an outstanding opportunity for science educators to learn, collaborate, and explore. They are incredibly dedicated in providing top notch science and technology learning. I have gotten funding in the past before to go, and have even paid out of my own pocket to go to the conference last year. After providing an exceptional experience in the past, I hope to keep going in the future.
As a new STEM teacher, I hope that I can take the training and learning that I receive from the conference into the classroom, as well as be an outstanding STEM resource on my campus.
My school looks out to better our scholars and staff, and by going to the conference, I hope to bring back a wealth of knowledge that I can immediately implement in the classroom. I also hope to develop and deliver an engaging and efficient professional development lesson for the teachers on my campus, from what I take away. I hope that I can also communicate my science/STEM vision and passion to impact the community around my school, and hopefully the globe.
