My students love to see the word STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), on the daily schedule. They are active learners and want to be involved in hands on investigations.
Through the use of the investigations, students are provided with an opportunity to practice twenty-first century skills such as creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and cooperation with their fellow students.
We are a small rural school district that is dedicated to providing differentiated and meaningful instruction so that all students will be successful and life long learners.
The STEM investigation kits will be used to introduce parents to our STEM principles; science, technology, engineering, and math, during a "STEM" night. Students in grades 4K-5th grade will choose a kit and solve a problem with the help of their parents. The investigations include a circuit creations kit, a parachuters kit, and a solar car kit.
The students, through the use of the kits on STEM night, will model problem solving and persistence.
In doing so, parents will gain a better understanding of our STEM curriculum.
This STEM night will share our students' love of hands on learning and demonstrate the twenty-first century skills that they have acquired.
