I teach second grade in a neighborhood that sometimes struggles to meet basic needs. They are kind hearted kids who are hungry for knowledge.
In our classroom we leave our worries at the door and become a family that loves to grow and work together.
We are big kids now but still like to play. We enjoy creating and building things. We love to share our creations and dream of what we will do when we grow up. Now our little hands play with building blocks and later our big hands will design and create the communities of the future.
These materials have a home and a purpose. My class is young and they are our future. These products will help my young second graders develop skills that can spark an interest in a career and not just a job. There will be opportunities for an introduction to coding for our tech savvy little learners. Your help will allow some to build with a purpose by following architectural plans. These hands-on activities will lead to conversations in the classroom that foster imagination and create goal oriented opportunities. We will be able to do more than just say “I want to be a construction worker when I grow up.” This project will help us see what that means by using construction planks. We will use math, science, and communication skills to build our future.
