This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
" A strength-based classroom is a place where students with all sorts of labels come together as equals to form a new type of learning environment."
- Thomas Armstrong
Fearless, curious, resilient and brilliant are just a few words that I would use to describe the K-2 students that I get the pleasure to teach. I teach at a low-income school in small town Louisiana. At my school 96% of the students come from low-income homes.
I am the media specialist and teach library, technology, STEM and creativity to my students. My students come in with very different needs. We all work together to help each other achieve greatness. My students absolutely love learning, exploring and pushing the limits of creativity in the library!
Many people tell me that my students are lucky to have someone like me in their lives, but really I am the lucky one to have them!
My Project
STEM( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills are so important in education as we build the workforce of the future. My little engineers need a flexible seating table with comfy chairs so that they are able to explore the world of STEM and Makerspace in the most comfortable environment.
They will be thrilled with the over-sized floor pillows when it's time to read and research the projects they are working on in our new Makerspace/STEM lab!
My students will dive deep into STEAM with the Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM Kit. They will help solve problems for the characters that most are familiar with. I hope that starting STEAM with things they are familiar with only make them more excited for future STEM and STEAM activities.
