My students need a Stem Station to give them a balanced and equitable education. Our school would like to begin a STEM program but have neither the supplies or funds to bring this idea to fruition.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello again. Abena Story here. I teach 20 wonderful kindergarten students at George Manierre. My school is located in the Old Town neighborhood in Chicago. The students I service are identified as 99% low income and we have limited funding. Despite this identification and issues my students are present, enthusiastic and ready to learn. Our school has many dedicated teachers as well as a dedicated administration that are willing to go above and beyond every day for our students. Thank you.
My Project
The addition of a STEM Center in the classroom would give my students a much needed advantage in the areas of Science. The STEM Center will give the students practice in the areas of Science as we have no definitive Science program. The students will also practice critical thinking and socialization as they will need to rationalize and work together to solve challenges. My students love Science, but we just don't have the materials to engage the students. Students who are confident in Science and Math abilities in the primary grades will be better prepared to face the challenges of these areas of study in the higher grades.
