How can we engage and motivate students to learn Science and Math? Our school welcomes students from kindergarten to fourth grade with a multitude of backgrounds, personalities, and experiences. These students are eager to learn the skills they need when given the right encouragement and tools to succeed. They persevere even when the math and science challenges them and work diligently when engaged in learning tasks.
Our students are visual and hands-on learners who need to manipulate materials to fully grasp concepts.
They thrive when supported and are overjoyed as they reach the next step in their learning. They want to learn and grow as mathematicians and scientists. All they need are engaging experiences and materials to work with using tools that support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics!
My Project
I want to offer a STEM night for our students and their families that provides them opportunities to work with and see STEM in a different way. The Makey Makey sets utilize technology with science and math concepts. Snap Circuits provide students hands-on experiences to understand the concepts of electricity beyond reading about it in a text. The challenge builder sets will allow students to understand and apply the steps of the design process. These materials will bring excitement to the concepts we learn in the classroom!
In order to learn STEM concepts, students need to manipulate the materials and easily adjust their designs.
Not only will we introduce these materials at a STEM night, but they will be available to the teachers at my school. I want them in classrooms and in the hands of our students. I want students to discover and explore a love of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in an engaging way. These materials offer endless possibilities and new opportunities for our students!
