Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are loving, curious, and passionate first graders from an urban community with a diverse student population. They are motivated students who are eager to learn, be successful, and display their creativity in their academic endeavors.
My students thrive in a learning environment where their academic and social-emotional needs are brought to the forefront of our classroom.
They are innovators and explorers who look for new and creative ways of thinking. The school community is very inviting and nurturing, which creates and fosters a safe and secure environment in which social-emotional care and academic growth is a priority.
My Project
The children who will come back into my classroom soon are very engaged by the STEM world. They find manipulatives and recycle products to use in their inquiries and work together to solve answers for their questions. By purchasing them these materials, we can engage first graders with not only materials from curriculum sent by our district (which is limited to very few and very old things) but we can give them stacking blocks related to the natural world so they can connect classroom learning to the outside world.
These materials will provide a better environment for exploration in STEM as the students in my class can use them to improve designs, challenge their thinking, and tell stories through their experiments.
It is truly amazing to see the face of a child light up when they've mastered a challenge or added to their designs because in that moment is when we see their love of learning grow. These materials will engage and encourage them to use STEM and show how much greater their love of learning can grow each day.
