My Students
We are a neighborhood school serving the community since l927. In addition to general education students, our students represent 23 language groups, many of them English language learners, and students with special needs. Our mission is to develop joyful learners by providing them with support, encouragement, and opportunities for challenge.
Our students are enthusiastic learners who thrive on creativity and being challenged! They are motivated by high-interest level curriculum and hands-on learning opportunities. They also love being able to explore, create new things, and are highly motivated by student centered learning. We are always looking for ways to provide them with tools that will help them maximize their potential.
My Project
Well written stories, especially STEM stories, inspire and excite the mind and can get students innovating! As a PreK-5th STEM teacher, I incorporate computer science, engineering challenges, and maker education into our year's curriculum.
The STEM books from this project, as well as the resources from the IF/THEN digital library, will help promote STEM thinking and encourage young students, especially girls, to see themselves as scientists, engineers, computer scientists and creative makers! Besides using these materials to support our current STEM curriculum, our goal is create a school YouTube channel with student created videos on themes generated from our student body. Who knows? We might end up with our own school IF/THEN collection!
