Bright, imaginative, energetic, enthusiastic, loving, and well…crazy are just a few of the words I would use to describe my students. I teach Kindergarten in a Title 1 elementary school in Virginia. What is a Title 1 school? Being a Title 1 school means that the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch and breakfast. Teaching in a Title 1 school comes with many challenges. Quite often our school is the most stable and positive environment for the children in our community.
I want my students to become explorers, writers, readers, mathematicians and more!
I work hard to create a classroom community that is positive and inclusive. I plan engaging lessons that inspire my students to be active learners. When my students walk into my classroom, I want them to feel safe, loved, and valued. In an ever changing world, I hope to instill a love for learning that continues to blossom throughout my students’ lives.
My Project
This year, I'm implementing flexible seating in my classroom. My students need clipboards, plastic stools, and building materials to enhance their learning.
Through the use of these tools, my students will have the opportunity to explore and create in a classroom that is open and student centered.
We need clipboards so students will have a hard surface for writing while working on the carpet. The colorful plastic stools will offer students another seating option and add visual interest in our classroom. We will use the building materials to incorporate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities through the use of challenge cards and maker's spaces.
